The Gathering Kitchen
In order to create a more open concept family room, two structural wall were removed to integrate the kitchen into the main living space. The existing solid oak flooring was contrasted by the darker stained and fully custom cabinetry. Symmetry, minimalism, function and warmth were the main design drivers here, with influence from both Scandinavia and Japan in detailing and materials. All appliances are hidden in plain sight to create a clutter-free workspace. The fridge behind full height millwork, the microwave and other secondary appliances behind pocketed doors, and the cook top is invisible induction under the porcelain countertops. Since tea culture is prevalent in the home, a marble clad nook honors the ritual.
